Lack of sensory control is the main cause of all the unrest and agitation that you find in the world today. Lack of discipline has led to the endemic, epidemic, and now the pandemic of the coronavirus.
Some people feel that they miss the very essence of life if they control their senses and deny themselves the pleasures of the world. This is a mistaken idea.
If you observe, overindulging in our senses only brings deterioration in our health. Our five senses are:
1. Taste - a sensation which baffles everyone.
As you see, we have consumed so many edibles, fruits, and delicacies until now, but still, our tongue is not satisfied. For a healthy body, food should be eaten in moderation. Food should be eaten for the sake of satisfying hunger and sustaining the body.
Diseases and suffering from diseases have forced people to opt for a healthier lifestyle. Sense control plays a major role in this aspect.
2. Vision - needs to be monitored.
Watching unnecessary, unwanted television, video, or mobile leaves a longterm impact on the mind. This causes undue excitement, anxiety, and restlessness. The Coronavirus publicity caused more anxiety and desperation than it did to increase awareness.
3. Listening - gossip creates negative vibrations that harm the body and mind.
In contrast, positive vibrations in the form of devotional songs or pleasant, slow music allow the mind to settle down and work more efficiently.
Gossips regarding the coronavirus circulated more than the actual facts.
4. Nose – the gateway to respiratory infections,
As well as a medium to soothe the mind with the fragrance of flowers. Intoxication with unhealthy practices will damage the brain cells and the body.
5. Touch – a sensation which speaks volumes.
Now the awareness of it has increased like never before. The coronavirus scare has reduced unnecessary contact with others. People have learned to wash hands after the coronavirus pandemic, without any implementation or interference from the governments.
The real meaning and significance of control are not restraining the senses from performing their functions, but directing and regulating the senses along the proper channels.
So, you see, injudicious use of all the senses can lead the way to the destruction of your body and mind.
